About Lampada

Lampada Digital Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hull University and was created to derive profits from leveraging and commercialising the Intellectual Property rights owned by the University. Our mission is to develop commercial enterprises and establish wider external business relationships, in addition to creating new opportunities for the research faculties within the University. Lampada also supports the student body, employing them in full-time positions, apprenticeships and internships.

Our name derives from the University’s motto – Lampada Ferens – which translates as ‘carrying the light of learning’. Over the years that light has been shared with thousands of people from across the world. As England’s 14th-oldest university, Hull has a strong heritage of academic excellence, creating and inspiring life-changing research that has transformed the way people think for 90 years. Here at Lampada we are proud to be part of the continuation of this great academic tradition.

We have a growing team of highly experienced professionals, with a wealth of knowledge within software development, eLearning platforms, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality. All the Lampada team are experts in their respective fields.

We work with some leading partners including, Learning Mate, Evoco and RAS Ltd. Lampada also has an existing portfolio of developed solutions covering Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality applications, high tech software solutions, applications in the Leisure, Health Services, Emergency Services, Airport and Chemicals sectors, Tourism and Telecommunications sectors.

Andrew Parkinson

Andy has a varied background as a senior executive, having worked across many sectors for a diverse mix of organisations. This includes one of the largest privately owned engineering firms in the UK, the telecoms giant KCOM, and has worked in the Fast Moving Consumable Goods industry with some of the biggest brands in Europe. Andy is a technology enthusiast, having founded and run a successful business strategy and digital innovation consultancy, Quantum Insight, and is also a long-term Director of C4DI, a £15m technology incubator which has now expanded into the City’s digital cluster. In the public sector, Andy was the lead for Hull’s City Plan, a billion-pound economic infrastructure plan to help the city recover from the 2008 recession, with the aim of creating in excess of 12,000 jobs in the region.

Robin Gilchrist

Robin has 37 years business and Non-Executive director experience, most recently within the consultancy, charities and high technology sectors. Robin has extensive international business experience having managed business development and sales across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pac. Robin is a visiting Professor at the University of Hull and Durham University.

Dr David Richards

Dr David Richards is Hull University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise). In collaboration with ICI, Dr Richards completed a DPhil in Chemistry at the University of York, before starting his working life with BP in Hull. His first role was in manufacturing, before moving into technology, business development, support services, and HR. He then returned to a senior leadership role in manufacturing. David has supported a variety of local initiatives including the Local Nature Partnership (LNP), the Humber Chemical Focus (HCF) and was an Exco and Board member for the European Ethanol Industry Association. David is now leading on the changes in research and enterprise and is helping drive the University's ambitions to become an internationally-renowned centre of research excellence.

Jeremy Hartley

Jeremy is Head of Finance at Hull University and is a senior level finance professional with a solid understanding of what it takes to partner a business and improve shareholder value in today’s environment. With over 20 years’ experience from within a big 4 accountancy practise, large scale businesses and an SME, Jeremy is a technical yet commercially orientated professional having held many roles within the finance arena, working for over 12 in years in turnaround businesses and with 5 years of international experience in the emerging markets.

Joanne Gibbons

Director of Finance

Joanne is Head of Finance Business Partnering at the University of Hull and is a senior level financial professional. Joanne has a broad understanding of finances across many different sectors. With over 14 years of experience in the financial industry, working within the Big 4 accountancy practice both in the UK and overseas. Joanne has worked in a variety of industries over her career from technology to Education, she has a rounded understanding of what is needed to partner and support businesses.

Joanne Redburn

Head of Sales & Marketing

Joanne has 19 years sales, marketing and account management experience predominantly within the communication sector working for PLC’s and SME’s within the UK and Australia. Joanne has an in-depth knowledge of progressive technology and driving businesses forward in order to increase revenue, enriching employee’s productivity and experiences.

Nick Dale

Product Manager

Nick has 30 years IT experience working within telecommunications, cloud and software development sectors. Nick has a passion for developing digital products and propositions that help organisations tackle their most challenging problems and deliver great customer experience. Nick has previously managed product portfolios across national and international markets.
