Project Overview

The Visitor App was developed in collaboration with the University of Hull to enhance the experience of individuals visiting the university campus, with a particular focus on accessibility, inclusion, and personalised support. The application is designed to support visitors with disabilities or specific needs such as dietary, cultural, gender-based, or religious considerations by helping them navigate the campus and locate suitable services and facilities.

Aims of the Project

The project aimed to improve campus navigation and inclusivity by providing a tool that empowers all visitors’regardless of physical ability, dietary needs, or cultural practices’to explore the university confidently and independently. By leveraging digital mapping and personalised filtering, the goal was to remove common barriers to access and ensure a welcoming experience for all.?

What We Did

We developed a software application that enriches existing campus data with detailed information on building entrances and key service locations. Our team captured and structured accessibility focused data, such as step-free access, accessible toilets, and gender-neutral facilities and mapped this to an interactive digital interface. Users can specify their individual requirements in the app, which then provides tailored recommendations on facilities, entrances, and services that best meet their needs.?

Project Impact

The Visitor App represents a significant step towards a more inclusive campus environment. It supports a wide range of visitor needs by offering relevant, accurate, and easy-to-access information that improves wayfinding and enhances the overall visitor experience. The app not only demonstrates the university’s commitment to accessibility and equity, but also provides a scalable foundation for future enhancements across other institutions and public spaces.
