Project Overview

Work-related stress costs UK businesses over ’45 billion annually and is a leading cause of sickness absence. In 2023, over 23 million working days were lost due to stress and poor mental health. To address this, a software tool was developed to equip managers with structured, practical ways to have early conversations with staff’helping identify challenges, support wellbeing, and reduce the impact of workplace stress.

Aims of the Project

The aim of the project is to give managers the tools they need to have meaningful conversations with their team members about workplace challenges. It helps them understand what support is needed and work together to create effective action plans that address the issues and improve wellbeing.

What We Did

We developed a software tool, based on applied psychology, to help managers have structured conversations with their team about work-related stress. It helps identify the causes of stress and supports the creation of tailored action plans. The project was funded by the UK government through DLUHC and developed in partnership with four local authorities. It was first used in the public sector and is now available to private sector organisations.
